A Dubai move is easier to manage when each decision unlocks the next one. Use this guide as a working sequence, then confirm route-specific requirements with your employer or the relevant authority.

01

Before you book the trip, clarify the route and the paperwork

Start with the sponsor: employer, property route or another eligible option

If you are moving for a job, your employer will generally guide the employer-sponsored route. If you are self-employed and do not have an employer sponsor, a property-investor route may be worth assessing alongside other eligible options. The right route depends on your circumstances, so confirm it with the responsible authority or a qualified adviser.

Before an application begins, write down who the applicant and sponsor are, which documents are needed, who pays each fee, who submits each step and what must happen next. The entry permit or eVisa will carry its own validity and entry conditions. Follow the dates printed on your issued document; do not rely on a general 30–60-day estimate. Airlines or transit authorities may also ask to see it, so keep an accessible copy for the whole journey.

Build a family document list before paying for translation or attestation

For each family member, record the document, whether an original or copy is required, issuing country, expiry date, destination, preparation time and whether translation or attestation is needed. Ask the employer, school or receiving institution to confirm the exact format before you pay for certification. Requirements can differ by route and institution.

02

Prepare in parallel before departure

Coordinate school enquiries, shipping estimates and temporary accommodation

For children, track age and grade, candidate schools, application windows and current availability. For the household, make one inventory and request comparable quotes from at least two moving companies. Check insurance, customs paperwork, what is included or excluded, transit time and delivery access. Note what still needs confirmation before making a booking.

International shipping can be expensive, slow and vulnerable to customs delays. A lighter move—sometimes just suitcases, with furniture bought locally—can be simpler. Compare the cost of shipping each item with buying a replacement in Dubai rather than assuming everything should travel.

Plan a temporary stay while residency steps and Emirates ID processing are underway. As a planning allowance, the source notes roughly one to two weeks before an Emirates ID may be issued, but this is not a guaranteed service time. Options include a hotel, a holiday home such as an Airbnb for a family, or a monthly rental found through Property Finder or Bayut. Confirm the booking terms and location before paying.

03

After arrival, follow the residency sequence

Complete medical fitness and biometric steps when your sponsor directs you

After entry, follow the sponsor’s, government centre’s or agent’s instructions for the medical fitness process. The original notes mention blood testing and a chest X-ray. Dubai’s published health guidance says chest X-rays are not routinely part of initial screening there, so confirm the exact tests that apply to your visa category and current DHA process before attending. Keep your passport and entry permit/eVisa with you. If directed to biometrics, complete the fingerprint or other identity-registration appointment as instructed.

Use a visitor mobile line first, then ask to migrate the number

Arrange a visitor phone line soon after arrival so you can receive calls and messages while residency is being processed. Once your Emirates ID is available, ask the carrier—such as du or e&—about moving to a resident plan. In many cases the existing number can be retained; confirm the eligibility, documents and process with the carrier, usually at a store or through its current service channel.

Connect Emirates ID, banking, tenancy, Ejari and DEWA in the right order

Emirates ID is commonly requested for resident banking, long-term tenancy and utility setup. Exact requirements vary by bank, landlord, building and provider, so ask each one what it accepts and when. Once a tenancy is agreed, map the contract, Ejari registration, keys and building move-in clearance, then apply for DEWA and arrange recurring household payments. The point is to keep each dependency visible—not to assume every provider follows the same sequence.
