UAE to Bali Flights: Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah via Phuket?

From the UAE to Bali, the easiest choices are Emirates direct from Dubai (DXB) or Etihad direct from Abu Dhabi (AUH). A lower-cost alternative is to fly from Sharjah to Phuket, then take a separate onward flight to Bali; it can work well, but it needs more buffer time, baggage planning and tolerance for a self-connection.

The direct routes are easier. The Sharjah route can be cheaper if you plan the connection properly.

Bali is not a complicated destination from the UAE, but the best route depends on what you are optimising for. If you want the least friction, fly direct. If price matters and you do not mind turning the journey into two parts, Sharjah to Phuket and then Phuket to Bali can be an interesting route.

Dubai to Bali direct: the easiest route from DXB

Emirates is the cleanest option if you are starting in Dubai. Its official Dubai to Bali route page, checked on 22 September 2026, shows 14 weekly flights between Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Denpasar (DPS). The listed examples include overnight or morning departures, with flight times around nine hours and fifteen to twenty-five minutes.

Choose this route when time and simplicity matter more than squeezing the fare. You stay on one airline, the baggage is handled through the booking, and you avoid building your own connection in Southeast Asia.

The trade-off is usually price. Emirates can still be good value on the right dates, but it is not automatically the cheapest UAE-Bali option. Compare the full return fare with baggage, seat selection and change rules before deciding.

Abu Dhabi to Bali direct: Etihad from AUH

Etihad is the direct route for Abu Dhabi. Its official Abu Dhabi to Denpasar page, checked on 22 September 2026, describes one nonstop flight per day, with the fastest flight taking about nine hours and thirty-five minutes. The same page showed example round-trip fares from AED 2,570, subject to availability.

This is the obvious route if you live in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain or the western side of the UAE, or if Etihad Guest miles matter to you. It also avoids the drive to DXB when your starting point is already closer to AUH.

For Dubai or Sharjah residents, the question is whether the airport transfer cancels out the benefit. A cheaper AUH ticket may still make sense, but add the ground transfer, timing and baggage stress to the comparison.

Sharjah to Phuket, then Bali: the flexible lower-cost route

The route I am using this time is Sharjah to Phuket, then onward to Bali. Air Arabia's official Sharjah to Phuket fare page, checked on 22 September 2026, showed one-way economy fare examples from AED 798 on some months, while prices changed by travel date. For my trip, the total return budget is around AED 2,500.

This can be a smart route if you are comfortable self-connecting. It is especially interesting from Sharjah because you avoid crossing Dubai for DXB, and Phuket can become a deliberate stop rather than just an airport connection.

But it is not the same product as a through-ticket to Bali. If the Phuket-Bali sector is on a separate booking, a delay into Phuket can put the onward flight at your risk. Build a real buffer, check whether you need to enter Thailand, and confirm baggage collection, visa or entry conditions and terminal logistics before booking tight connections.

Phuket to Bali is the part that needs the most care

The Phuket to Bali leg is where the route becomes more date-sensitive. AirAsia MOVE currently lists Phuket to Bali fares and direct-flight search results, while third-party schedule tools also show HKT-DPS direct service on some dates. Treat the actual airline, operating carrier, baggage allowance and flight time as booking-date facts rather than fixed year-round promises.

A same-day connection can look efficient on a screen and still be fragile in real life. If you are checking bags, changing airlines or travelling during a busy holiday period, an overnight in Phuket may be calmer than trying to force the route into one long travel day.

For people who like the idea of two destinations, that is not a bad compromise. You can make Phuket part of the trip, then continue to Bali with less pressure. For people who just want to arrive in Bali, the direct UAE flights are cleaner.

How I would choose between the routes

If I were booking for a family, a honeymoon or a short Bali holiday, I would start with the direct flights. Losing half a day to a self-connection can cost more than the fare saving, especially when everyone is tired.

If I were booking for myself, travelling light and happy to turn the journey into part of the trip, I would seriously compare Sharjah via Phuket. At around AED 2,500 return in this example, it is a route worth considering, provided the connection is not reckless.

The useful comparison is not just ticket price. Put the total journey beside the total fare: airport transfer, baggage, meals, overnight stop if needed, missed-connection risk and arrival time in Bali. Once those are visible, the right route usually becomes obvious.

Arriving in Bali: keep the first day simple

All of these routes arrive at Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS), near Denpasar and the southern resort areas. After a long flight from the UAE, the first decision is usually not sightseeing; it is where you sleep and how far you want to drive after immigration and baggage.

For a first night, Seminyak, Canggu, Uluwatu, Nusa Dua, Sanur and Ubud are very different choices. Beach, surf, villas, resort calm and inland culture each point to a different transfer time from the airport.

If your flight arrives late, keep the first hotel transfer simple. Bali is better when the first day does not become a forced itinerary.

A practical booking order

Compare the whole journey before choosing the fare. A cheap flight is only cheap if the connection still works after baggage, immigration and delay risk.

  1. Direct comfortChoose Emirates from DXB or Etihad from AUH when simplicity, baggage handling and arrival certainty matter most.
  2. Lower-cost experimentChoose Sharjah to Phuket to Bali when you are flexible, travelling light and willing to manage separate tickets carefully.
  3. Connection bufferAdd time in Phuket if the onward Bali flight is separate, especially with checked baggage or a late arrival.

Questions people ask

Can you fly direct from Dubai to Bali?

Yes. Emirates' official route page showed 14 weekly Dubai to Bali flights when checked on 22 September 2026. Schedules and aircraft can change, so confirm the exact dates on Emirates before booking.

Can you fly direct from Abu Dhabi to Bali?

Yes. Etihad's official Abu Dhabi to Denpasar page described a daily nonstop flight when checked on 22 September 2026. Confirm current timings and fares on Etihad for your dates.

Is Sharjah to Phuket to Bali cheaper?

It can be. Air Arabia showed Sharjah to Phuket one-way examples from AED 798 on some months, and this trip is around AED 2,500 return in total. The saving depends on the Phuket-Bali fare, baggage and whether an overnight stop is needed.

Should I book Sharjah-Phuket-Bali on separate tickets?

Only if you understand the risk. Separate tickets can mean collecting baggage, clearing immigration and losing protection if the first flight is delayed. Build a generous buffer or stop overnight in Phuket.
