My Evening at Meydan Golf: Dubai's Open-Air Driving Range

My visit to the Meydan Golf driving range in Dubai: a spacious, well-kept setting for friends and beginners, rental equipment and a different atmosphere from Topgolf.

The Track, Meydan Golf is a spacious outdoor option for hitting balls in Dubai. I liked its well-kept grounds, relaxed atmosphere and sense of openness, with clubs and practice balls available on site.

What I liked most about Meydan Golf's driving range was the space. It is wide, open and genuinely enjoyable to hit balls into. The grounds feel well looked after, and you do not need to turn the visit into a serious golfing occasion to have a good time.

I went at night. Under the lights, the grass, palm trees and distant Dubai skyline give the place a very different feel from being inside a busy entertainment venue. For a relaxed outing with friends, including people who are new to golf, it is an appealing option.

An evening at the Meydan driving range

There is a golf course here, but the driving range is a reason to visit in its own right. You can focus on the simple part: standing at a mat, taking a swing and watching where the ball goes. The openness is what makes that feel so good.

My photograph shows the targets and distance markers spread across the grass. There is something satisfying about having a clear point to aim for, whether you are working on a particular shot or just trying to make your next one better. You can enjoy that without turning the evening into a competition.

It is really spacious and well maintained. I would go for the driving range alone: it feels good to be outside, hitting balls into such an open space.

The official driving-range page lists floodlighting, multiple targets and Burj Khalifa views. That city backdrop is part of the appeal: this is an outdoor golf setting, but Dubai is still right there beyond the greenery.

An easy atmosphere for friends and beginners

Some sporting venues can make a beginner feel as though they should already know what they are doing. Meydan did not give me that impression. The atmosphere felt approachable, and it struck me as a good place to come with friends, chat between shots and enjoy trying something together.

You do not have to be equally good at golf to enjoy the same outing. A regular player can practise while someone newer gets comfortable with the club and the ball. That makes a range session an easy idea for a group with mixed experience.

Keep the conversation behind the hitting positions and give each person room to swing. Being relaxed and social works best when everyone still respects the space around the mats.

For anyone who wants an introduction rather than simply a casual hit, The Meydan Academy offers professional coaching and group classes. The club also has putting and short-game practice facilities, so there is more to work on than hitting the ball as far as possible.

Meydan or Topgolf? A different kind of outing

To me, Topgolf has more of a nightlife-style, entertainment-led feel. Meydan is a different mood: more open-air golf, less night-out energy. The attraction here is the setting and the pleasure of hitting balls, rather than needing the evening to revolve around an entertainment format.

That does not make Meydan unsociable. Quite the opposite: I think it works well with friends. It simply gives the outing another rhythm. You can spend time together while the golf itself remains the main activity.

Topgolf and Meydan are different moods for me. If I want a wide, open place where I can just enjoy hitting balls with friends, Meydan is a really good fit.

I would choose it for a casual catch-up that involves doing something, a beginner's introduction to the range, or a practice session that does not feel confined. You can make it as focused or as easygoing as your group wants.

There is a course here, too

The venue's full name is The Track, Meydan Golf. Beyond the range is a nine-hole, par-36 course designed by Peter Harradine, with six lakes and floodlighting for play after dark. It operates on a pay-and-play basis, without requiring a membership. The official course page has the layout and tee-time booking link.

For this outing, the part I am recommending from experience is the driving range. A round is a separate way to enjoy the venue, with more time and structure involved. For a group that just wants to try golf together, I would start with the range rather than make a full round the starting point.

Clubs, balls and planning your visit

You can get clubs and practice balls at the venue, so owning a golf setup is not a prerequisite for a range outing. That is a big part of what makes the idea accessible: you can try it before deciding whether golf is something you want to pursue regularly.

On my visit, 120 practice balls cost AED 200, and club hire was around AED 30 per club. That puts 120 balls and one rental club at approximately AED 230, a useful budget for trying the range without bringing your own equipment.

For range enquiries, contact the pro shop on +971 50 199 8246 or info@meydangolf.com.

  • Destination: The Track, Meydan Golf, G11 Meydan Road, Nad Al Sheba, Dubai. Use the driving-range location rather than navigating only to the wider Meydan complex.
  • For an evening visit: the range is floodlit. Ask the pro shop for the day's last range admission and closing time when arranging your session.
  • Equipment: mention how many people need rental clubs when checking the package.
  • What to bring: comfortable clothes you can swing in, suitable shoes and drinking water.

A car or taxi makes this an easy standalone stop in Meydan. If you need a vehicle for the day, browse Dubai rental cars on Mifto.

For me, the reason to return is straightforward: a well-kept, spacious place to hit balls and spend time with friends. You get the open sky, a little of the city skyline and an activity that beginners can enjoy without having to make a big occasion of it.
