Shees Park is a landscaped family park in Sharjah's eastern mountain region near Khorfakkan. An artificial waterfall, stone stairways and viewing terraces place a compact leisure outing within a much larger Hajar Mountain setting. It is a good fit for visitors who want time outdoors without making a full hike the focus of the day.

A small park framed by the Hajar Mountains.

The waterfall gives the park an immediate focal point. Visit Sharjah describes a fall more than 25 metres high, deliberately created within the landscaped setting rather than a seasonal natural cascade. From there, the terraces offer a different way to appreciate the surroundings. Three levels connected by stone stairs lead towards a higher viewing platform, where the interest broadens from the waterfall to the mountains around the park. That creates two useful versions of a visit: a gentler outing centred on seating and leisure areas, or a walk that includes the stepped ascent. The authority also lists children's recreational facilities, shaded seating and picnic areas, which help explain the park's family appeal. The built landscape and the mountains do different jobs. One makes it easy to spend a little time outside; the other gives the stop its sense of place. There is no need to describe the park as untouched wilderness to appreciate the contrast.

Planning a visit to Shees Park

One to two hours is a reasonable allowance for a short walk, time by the waterfall and a rest. A family picnic could take longer, while someone breaking a journey to Khorfakkan may prefer a shorter stop. The upper terraces involve stone steps, so the description 'family-friendly' does not establish step-free access throughout. A group with a stroller or a visitor who avoids stairs can base the outing around appropriate lower areas, subject to the current access arrangements. Comfortable footwear is useful for the terraced walk, and drinking water matters even when part of the visit is spent in shade. The park's designated leisure spaces give a picnic a clearer setting than an improvised roadside stop. Current entry or development notices may affect the visit, so older photographs cannot settle the precise facilities available on a particular date. The core appeal remains the small park within the larger mountain scene.

Location and arrival

The Shees Park entrance is a more precise destination than the general Wadi Shees area. The nearby village and wadi are distinct places with their own walking and access considerations; a park visit does not automatically include a trail through them. On a broader east-coast day, Shees can provide a mountain interval before Khorfakkan Beach, while Al Rafisah Dam offers another separate stop. A relaxed itinerary may need only one of those additions. Each has its own parking and arrival, and the travel between them should remain part of the day rather than disappearing under a single 'Khorfakkan' label. For visitors drawn mainly to the terraces and waterfall, the park itself is enough to justify a deliberate pause.

Questions people ask

Is the waterfall at Shees Park natural?

It is an artificial waterfall within a landscaped park, as described by Visit Sharjah. The surrounding Hajar Mountains provide the natural setting. That combination is part of the attraction, rather than a reason to expect the seasonal behaviour of a wild wadi waterfall.
